Information about the Healthcare Industry in Germany

In Germany, there is a significant shortage of skilled workers, primarily due to declining birth rates and demographic changes. The healthcare sector is particularly impacted by this shortage, leading to a high demand for qualified professionals. While nursing is commonly known to be in demand, other healthcare professions are also experiencing a shortage and offer diverse and fulfilling career opportunities. Various fields within the healthcare industry, such as dental medicine, radiology, occupational therapy, and medical practices, are seeking skilled individuals to fill essential roles. If you are interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare industry, we can assist you in finding the appropriate vocational training that aligns with your interests and aspirations. Below, we highlight some of the exciting healthcare apprenticeship options available in Germany. If you are eager to embark on an apprenticeship in the healthcare sector, we look forward to hearing from you and supporting you in your journey.

Training as a Physiotherapist

Physiotherapists assist patients in maintaining, restoring, and improving their mobility and other physical functions. They conduct patient examinations, plan treatments, administer therapy, and document the results. Physiotherapists can work in various settings, including medical practices, physiotherapy clinics, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, sports facilities, and wellness hotels.

If you are interested in pursuing a career as a Physiotherapist, you should have a strong desire to help people, be comfortable staying on your feet and active throughout the day, and have a keen interest in medicine.

The training for Physiotherapists is conducted in a dual format, combining theoretical learning at a vocational school with practical training at a company, supervised by specialists. The theoretical aspect covers anatomy, physiology, pathology, treatment techniques, prevention, and rehabilitation relevant to the Physiotherapy profession. Throughout the training, you will complete several internships, typically in various work settings. A total of 1,600 practical hours must be completed by the end of the training.

As with other dual vocational training programs, you will earn money during your apprenticeship. In the first year of the Physiotherapist training, you can expect a gross salary of approximately €1,065 per month. In the second year, your salary increases to €1,125, and in the third year, it reaches €1,222. After completing your training, your starting salary will be between €2,500 to €2,700. With five years of professional experience, you can earn around €3,200.

Training as a Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants record patient data, prepare instruments and medications for treatments, assist doctors during procedures, draw blood, apply dressings, administer medications and injections, inform patients about treatment procedures, examine samples in the laboratory, schedule appointments with patients, and handle billing.

As a Medical Assistant, you will work in a doctor's practice, hospital, rehabilitation center, or health department.

During the first year of your training, you will learn how to receive and accompany patients, organize practice hygiene and infection prevention, and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. In the second year, you will learn how to prevent incidents and provide assistance in emergency situations, manage and procure supplies, and organize practice workflows as part of a team. In the third year, you will learn how to support patients in diagnostic and therapeutic measures for digestive system disorders, accompany patients during minor surgical treatments, provide wound care, and assist in patient prevention.

Since this is also a dual training program, you will receive a salary throughout the entire training period. In the first year, you can expect to earn €920. The salary increases to €995 in the second year and reaches €1,075 in the third year. After completing the training, you can expect a monthly gross salary of around €2,088. With several years of professional experience, you can earn around €3,000, and even more if you pursue further qualifications.

Career Opportunities after Your Apprenticeship

If you're wondering about career opportunities after completing your training, we have some relevant information for you. Particularly in the healthcare industry, there are numerous options for further education. You can choose to specialize in a specific healthcare field or pursue training to become an instructor. There are also various courses available that can expand your knowledge in certain medical practices. Additionally, after successfully completing your apprenticeship, pursuing a degree is an option. There are a wide range of study programs available. You can attend a regular university and work as a working student in your chosen occupation, or you can continue working full-time and complete your studies through distance learning. After completing your studies, you can, for example, take on leadership positions. All of these further education opportunities will help you earn more money and assume roles with more responsibility.

Training as
Radiologic Technologist

Radiologic Technologists support medical diagnosis of diseases or injuries through radiological and other imaging procedures. The training for a Radiologic Technologist lasts for three years and follows a dual system. The theoretical part of the training takes place in a vocational school, while the practical part is conducted in hospitals or outpatient medical facilities.

During the training, you will learn how to prepare tasks in Radiologic Diagnostics and other imaging procedures such as Projection Radiography, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Nuclear Medicine. This includes adapting procedures to the individuals being examined while ensuring radiation protection and safety. You will also gain important insights into contrast agents, digitalization approaches, hygiene measures, nuclear medicine diagnostics, radiation protection, and how to respond to complications or critical situations. Additionally, you will be trained to inform, advise, and guide individuals of all ages during examinations, as well as collaborate and communicate in interdisciplinary and interprofessional settings.

The practical training deepens the knowledge acquired in the classroom and applies it in hospitals or outpatient facilities. Furthermore, the Interprofessional Internship allows you to explore areas that precede or follow the core activities of a Radiologic Technologist.

In the first year of training, the gross monthly salary is approximately €1,065, rising to €1,125 in the second year, and €1,222 in the third year. The starting salary is around €2,500-€2,800. Over the years, with professional experience, you can earn up to €3,500.

Mcruit's German Language Courses from A1 to B2

To be eligible for an apprenticeship in the healthcare industry in Germany, candidates must demonstrate a B1 level of proficiency in the German language in their home country. Our German language courses are designed to cater to the diverse schedules and requirements of our nurse apprentices, offering both full-time and part-time options. We strive to provide flexibility, allowing individuals to balance their language learning with their apprenticeship training.

Investing in German language proficiency significantly enhances individuals' prospects of integrating into the German healthcare workforce and advancing their careers. At Mcruit, we are fully committed to supporting aspiring healthcare professionals in their language learning journey, providing them with the necessary skills to excel in their chosen profession in Germany.
